The Secret Garden is a children novel written by British novelist Frances Hodgson Burnett. The novel was published in August 1911. Frances Eliza Hodgson Burnett was born in 24 November 1849 (Cheetham, Manchester, England) and died 29 October 1924 (Plan dome Manor, New York, United States). She writes best three children novels, Little Lord Fauntleroy, A Little Princess, The Secret Garden.

At 20th century, Mary Lennox is 10 year old girl who gets rude and sour as a result of her parents indifferent behavior. When they die of cholera, She is sent to Yorkshire to her uncle’s isolated house, Misselthwaite Manor. There she gets friendly with maid Marhta Sowerby who tells her that late Mrs. Colin Craven like walled garden of roses but after her death in an accident, Mr Craven looked the garden and buried the key Mary grows curious and her health improves. She ponders over the cries which echo through the house at night.
After sometime Mary find the key and door to secret garden. Martha’s brother, Dickon Sowerby brings garden tools and is shared the secret with. One night Mary discover her sick cousin Colin who lives in a secret bedroom. Due to spiral problem, he cannot walk properly so Mary visits him and distracts him by telling him outdoors on a wheelchair i.e. to secret garden.
Colin and Mary spend alot of time together along with Dickon for whom Mary developed a liking for. The secret is also known to Ben Weatherstaff, one of the staff members who witness abroad Colin’s covering health Mr. Craven who travels abroad comes back after receiving letter and sees garden in full bloom and his son healthy. They both surprise servants by walking back to manor together.
